Physarum polycephalum Plasmodium

This shows shows a plasmodium (Colonia strain, McArdle medium) growing on an inhomogeneous substrate. The substrate consists of agar drops (volume 25 microliter, diameter 0.5 cm) arranged in a regular lattice. The most recently invaded drops are covered by yellowish plasmodium. Drops that became invaded at earlier stages are covered by a transparent, slimy structure.
