This is an image of a small plasmodium developing from a cross (mating) between two different strains of amoebae. Image 08 and Image 09 show developing plasmodia at progressively later stages, characterized by increased size of the plasmodium and decreased numbers of amoebae, the latter having served (along with the bacterial lawn) as a food source for the plasmodium.
