Hide Legend
Both images are of the same slide; each covers nearly 1/2 of the slide, and each field is 19 mm high
The legend is at the bottom of the page.
Full field height = 19 mm

This section of cat heart was processed with Masson's Trichrome Stain, which imparts a rusty-red color to most intracellular components and a blueish-grey hue to components of the extracellular fibers of connective tissues. Thus the arrows in the upper panel point to elements of the cardiac "skeleton". While it is not easy to identify the "gross anatomical" elements on the slide, the labels designate: LV - lumen of left ventricle; RV - lumen of right ventricle; A - lumen of (left) atrium; EBV - lumen of an elastic vessel (aorta?).
