This is a low magnification micrograph of a slide comparable to Slide D24. This section of skin has been specially stained to reveal Meissner's corpuscles. The epidermis is quite thick (vertical bar); "1" is placed over the stratum corneum, while "2" indicates the approximate position of the s. granulosum. Both "SG" (sweat gland) and "D" (duct of sweat gland) are at the approximate boundary between the dermis and hypodermis. Note the numerous adipocytes ("Ad") of the hypodermis. Meissner's corpuscles are best seen where dermal papillae extend up into deep evaginations of the epidermis. Such a region is at the asterisk (*), to the left of the vertical bar, and is shown at higher magnification in SKIN 08A.
