SKIN 08A

Hide Legend
Full frame width = 165 um

This is a higher magnification micrograph of the region around "*" in SKIN 08. Most of the field is filled with the lower layers of the epidermis, with dermal papillae ("DP") poking up into the epidermis in two places. Within the epidermis, a bit of the stratum corneum ("SC") is visible, along with some cells of the stratum granulosum ("SG") and large portions of the stratum spinosum ("SSp"). Each dermal papilla has a small oval structure (to the immediate left of the "MC") with the characteristic "zig-zag" appearance of the mechanoreceptive Meissner's corpuscle.
