This survey photomicrograph, from a slide comparable to Loan Slide H88, shows an entire field of skin, extending from the epidermal surface (at the top) to the hypodermis (at the bottom). The number "1" is in the epidermis. Numbers "2" and "3" are in the papillary and reticular layers, respectively, of the dermis. The number "4" indicates the approximate boundary of dermis and hypodermis; note the large number of hypodermal adipocytes in the lower portion of the field. One of the sweat glands in the field is indicated at "SG", while hair follicles are labelled "5". The hair follicle in the lower center of this field is shown at higher magnification in SKIN 04A.
