SKIN 03

Full frame width = 2400 um

This survey photomicrograph shows an entire field of skin, extending from the epidermal surface (at the bottom) to the hypodermis (at the top). The number "1" is in the epidermis, roughly at the level of the stratum granulosum. Numbers "2" are in the papillary layer of the dermis. Numbers "3" and "4" indicate sweat gland ducts (sectioned at differing angles) in the reticular layer of the dermis. In the region of transition between dermis and hypodermis are numerous sweat glands (SG), as well as a Pacinian corpuscle (5) and a large blood vessel (6). See SKIN 02 for higher magnification views of the dermal/hypodermal structures in a slide similar to this one.
