PANCREAS 07

Full frame width = 395 um
This section of human pancreas was stained with one of the many special stains that have been used to visualize Islets and, in some cases (but not here), distinguish the different endocrine cells present in the Islets. In this slide (labeled "azocarmine", but probably a combination with one or more of the trichrome stains), the cells of the Islet (center of the field) are much more lightly-stained than are the adjacent exocrine cells. Note the thin strands of connective tissue (faint blueish hue) that surround the Islet and extend into it along the paths taken by the blood vessels that supply the Islet cells.
