PANCREAS 04A

Full frame width = 395 um

Here, at higher magnification, is the central portion of the field in PANCREAS 04. The asterisk (*) is placed between two of the ganglion cells whose nuclei and prominent nucleoli are particularly well imaged. Even at this fairly low magnification, the centroacinar cells, which are so diagnostic of pancreas, are easily seen - for example in the acinus at the arrow. It should be noted that the apparently "empty" spaces between the lobules of the pancreas (for example, around the arrow) reflect the fact that the connective tissue septae in this organ are scanty and composed of rather fine collagen bundles, and thus easily swollen and distended during routine sample processing.
