Full frame width = 165 um
This shows a region of red pulp in a thin section of monkey spleen fixed without perfusion (hence the blood vessels are filled with red blood cells and intevening cords also have numerous red blood cells). The letters "L" indicate the lumens of venous sinusoids. The arrows indicate gaps in the basement mebranes surrounding these discontnuous capillaries, gaps through which red blood cells must squeeze in order to enter/exit the vasculature. LYMPHOID TISSUES 11a, shows a nearby field at higher magnification and greater resolution. The labels are the same, but the gaps in the lining of the sinusoids are somewhat easier to see.
