LYMPHOID TISSUES 09

Full frame width = 395 um
This is from an alternative version of slide H24. It is a thin plastic section of rat spleen, fixed by perfusion; hence most blood vessels have been "emptied" of their contents and are somewhat distended. In addition, this particular slide was stained with Hematoxylin ONLY, which serves to emphasize nuclei - therefore white pulp - without showing the red blood cells or connective tissue fibers that characterize the red pulp. This should be compared with LYMPHOID TISSUES 10, which was stained with Eosin ONLY and thus accentuates the red pulp. Here, the letters "N", "P", and "L" indicate a lymph nodule, an example of PALS (= perarterial lymphatic sheath), and the lumen of a venous sinusoid (in the red pulp), respectively.
