This low magnification view of ileum shows all four layers of the wall of the organ. Even at this magnification it is easy to distinguish the outer longitudinal layer ("L") of the muscularis externa from the inner circumferential ("C") layer. Is this a cross section or a longitudinal section? Note the submucosa ("S") and the muscularis mucosa ("M"). The arrow points to a large lymphoid nodule, most of which is in the submucosa, but which also extends across the m. mucosa into the lamina propria.
