This shows the region at the asterisk (*) in Intestines 02. The muscularis mucosa ("MM") separates the lamina propria and the bases of two intestinal crypts (above) from the submucosa (below). The cells labeled "P" are probably Paneth cells, although this is not certain. Above each asterisk ("*") is an enteroendocrine (APUD) cell, distinguishable by its pale nucleus (compared to the neighboring cells) and the small granules in the cytoplasm (here seen as faintly-stippled), primarily in the basal (as opposed to apical) cytoplasm.
