Bone marrow smear. The large cell labeled "A" in the center of the field is most likely a megakaryocyte. Note the associated platelets. Platelets are formed by division of the cytoplasm of the megakaryocyte by membrane-bound channels that eventually pinch off platelets. The nucleus is atypical since megakaryocytes generally have a single large, polyploid nucleus. This cell seems to have two nuclei.
