Full frame width = 1000 um
Here, at higher magnification is the mucosal region at "X" in Esophagus and Stomach 06. The field includes the entire mucosa, extending from the lumen of the stomach (upper right) to the muscularis mucosa (D - far left). The letters "A" indicate the epithelial mucous surface cells that line the luminal surface and extend down into the gastric pits. The pits end, irregularly, at the level of the letters "B". From this point downward to the muscularis mucosa, are the gastric glands, cut ("C") at various angles. Since this is the pyloric stomach, the glands are comprised primarily of mucus-secreting cells, with few if any chief or parietal cells.
