This is a sample of cardiac muscle, in this area sectioned parallel to the long axis of the cells. In cardiac muscle fibers the nuclei are in the center of the cell and clusters of mitochondria are found adjacent to the nuclei. Below each asterisk is a cluster of small particles that are possibly mitochondria. If you are looking at this slide on the scope, do not be surprised if the field has been moved. Look around to see if you can visualize such presumptive mitochondria; be sure to focus up/down in areas of interest!
