This shows portions of several segments of the highly folded Ductus Epididymis: the asterisk is in the lumen of one such portion, adjacent to the spermatozoa typically found in this part of the male reproductive system. The lining epithelium is a pseudostratified columnar epithelium, whose predominant cell type is active in the secretion of glycoproteins that modify the surfaces of spermatozoa passing by. This preparation was stained with one of the many silver-based staining procedures designed to visualize the Golgi apparatus, seen in the supranuclear cytoplasm (e.g. at arrow A) in most of the columnar epithelial cells.
