This was taken from an alternate copy of slide D12 (in a region similar to that shown at the *), showing a portion of the small intestine. Above (right) and below (left) are parts of the mucosa and muscularis externa, respectively. Running diagonally, from upper left to lower right, is the submucosal connective tissue, within which are seen a number of vessels. Not all structures are identifiable, but some of the vessels that CAN be identified are labeled: A - a small artery; V - a small vein; L - a lymphatic vessel; 1,2, & 3 - arterioles; spaces such as the one at 4 are the remnants of adipocytes.
