Peripheral blood smear. The cell labeled "A" is an eosinophil. The identifying characteristics are the bi-lobed nucleus, and the large, brightly stained red (eosinophilic) granules. This cell is usually slightly larger than a neutrophil (compare to red cells for size reference). The cluster of small, purple stained objects at "B" are platelets. In the circulation, platelets would not normally be clumped together, but contact with the glass slide and exposure to air, often results in their aggregation.
